Europe is facing significant challenges in recent years. Alongside the just-ended global pandemic and the recent biggest military conflict on the subcontinent since World War II, defining a new concept of Europe will be a significant issue.
The Joint Master’s programme in European studies provides the opportunity to find the best solutions through an interdisciplinary approach. This is a great opportunity to study Europe with lecturers from the four forefront European universities (University of Granada, University of Graz, Leipzig University and Vilnius University), and develop soft skills that will flourish in your future career.
Start this journey with the Joint Master’s program in European studies.
The Joint Master’s programme offers the unique opportunity to develop a well-rounded knowledge of European Studies from the perspective of the four European countries’ educational and research institutions.
The programme is designed to address the most relevant and pressing issues in Europe and in the world that affect the subcontinent. The lecturers from the University of Granada, the University of Graz, Leipzig University, and Vilnius University will provide encompassing knowledge of European history, culture, politics, and philosophy. You will be able to enhance your writing and presentation skills, participate and generate stimulating discussions.
The Joint Master’s programme in European studies is an excellent opportunity to immerse oneself in the international and multicultural environment and to learn about Europe both from theoretical and practical perspectives through studying for at least one semester in a different foreign university.
The Joint Master’s programme is a two-year study (120 ECTS) broken down into modules of 10 ECTS each. There are two types of modules:
- There are modules that are offered jointly by the partner institutions. Students come together for joint classes, and lecturers from all participating universities teach on topics they are particularly qualified for. These modules consist of one jointly offered online course and one offline course. The offline course is taught by local lecturers.
- There are modules that are the responsibility of the individual study places, providing an incentive to the students to follow the physical mobility track by emphasizing – within a common thematic framework for these modules – the particular subject-related strengths of the individual study places and by allowing students to prepare for their theses in a specialized manner.

Eastern European and Russian studies
The Eastern European and Russian Studies at Vilnius University programme is devised to provide with deep and comprehensive knowledge about the region - its political, economic and cultural particularities, and develop your academic and analytical skills that will enable students to analyse, evaluate and assess key political and social processes within this dynamic and exciting region. "We give our Master students the freedom to explore and create their own personalized path of studies. They can decide to read classical philosophy or analyze the phenomenon of techno-bodies, focus on power and communication or get trained for international negotiations. This freedom goes hand in hand with hard work and responsibility. The result is more than just knowledge; it is students realizing their potential and implementing their ideas. We work in particularly small groups, so students can interact directly with leading researchers and practitioners. Intensive studies based on the analysis of real-life cases allow students to gain hands-on experience that can be put to use examining complex contemporary challenges and offering professional solutions." - deputy director for studies assoc. prof. dr. Lina Strupinskienė
