National Conference “Lithuania after the 2020 Parliamentary Elections” (archive)
Every parliamentary election is a significant political event, revealing political and societal changes and charting new directions for the development of the country. The results of the Seimas elections have also brought about changes in the composition of the Parliament and the Government. The 2020 Seimas elections took place in a unique context: citizens chose the politicians who will govern the country for the next four years in the context of significant national and international transformations brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
What new trends in public political preferences will the 2020 Seimas elections reveal? How are the political discourse and communication strategies of Lithuanian parties changing? What has led to this choice of voters? How did the COVID-19 pandemic affect the outcome of the elections and how did the elections affect the management of the pandemic crisis? What impact will the outcome of the parliamentary elections have on the further development of the country?
The aim of the conference, which will take place on Friday 26 March 2021, is to use approaches from various social sciences and humanities to comprehensively examine the 2020 Seimas elections and their context, as well as the implications of the electoral process and the results for the country’s domestic and foreign policy.
