Dr. Irma Budginaitė-Mačkinė is Associate Professor of Sociology at Vilnius University, Faculty of Philosophy, Institute of Sociology and Social Work. Since 2020 she has been teaching in the Eastern European and Russian studies MA programme offered by the Institute of International Relations and Political Science (IIRPS).
Irma has an interdisciplinary academic background. She holds a BA degree in Political Science (Vilnius university, IIRPS, 2008). At the graduate level she studied Political Sociology (MA, SciencePo Paris, 2009) and Sociology and Social Anthropology (MA, Central European University, 2010). In 2020 she defended her doctoral thesis in Sociology at the Faculty of Philosophy (2020).
She has more than ten years of professional experience in carrying out academic research, as well as leading applied public policy research. Prior to working at policy analysis centre PPMI (2010-2021), Irma began her carrier by gaining professional experience at the Unit of Equal Opportunities and Equity (DG Education and Culture, European Commission, 2010) and the Office of Equal Opportunities Ombudsmen (Lithuania, 2007). Irma has a strong interest and experience in building and developing international networks of researchers (NESET; NSU SC05 ‘Racialization, Whiteness and Politics of Othering’), represents Lithuania in COST networks. Currently she coordinates Marie Curie Staff Exchange project “Non-Western Migration Regimes in a Global Perspective” at Vilnius University.
